Be sure to be present in worship on February 19 as we give thanks for God’s faithfulness to this church family for 170 years.  Complete with cake, balloons, and decorations, we’re ready to kick off our year of celebration in a spirited way!  Then mark your calendars to be part of these upcoming events.  Details for participating in or volunteering to help with each event will follow through the year.

March 19:  We will honor those Multi-Generational Families who call First Congregational Church their home and who have worshipped together in FCC’s sanctuary.

March 25:  Fine Arts Saturday will be hosted by the Fine Arts Committee, who will give us an opportunity to explore talents given us by God that we didn’t know we had or to just have fun trying something new, such as quilting, watercolor painting, flower arranging, cake decorating, and cooking/baking.

Easter (April 16) to Pentecost (June 4):  Join us for a Physical Challenge that will remind us that the disciples were always on the move, guided by the Spirit, to grow the church of Jesus Christ and that the Spirit is still moving and guiding us today – everyday!

April 30:  Dust off those musical instruments or tune up those vocal chords to participate in a Concert and Dessert meant to celebrate history in an evening filled with period musical pieces and treats made from our very own church members’ much-loved old recipes.

May 21:  This month, we will remember and celebrate those couples who have celebrated their weddings in the sanctuary of FCC.  Dig out those wedding albums as this Wedding Celebration wouldn’t be complete without a few pictures and a piece of cake!

June 3:  We continue our celebration of history with a Croissant-Making Class.  Learn the origin of this pastry and how this delectable treat is made from a Paris-trained baker!

June 10:  All are welcome to participate in the Start of Summer Parade with us as we share with Rockford our joy in celebrating 170 years of Christian service to our community!

July 16:  In July, we will assemble anniversary Flower Bouquets from blooms we cut from our own gardens!

August 13:  Enjoy some refreshment during the steamy summer with A Good Ol’ Fashioned Ice Cream Social after worship!

September 24:  Let’s kick off our program year with an Old-Fashioned Village Celebration!  This will be a grand event with many of the elements of a county or 4-H fair!

October 21:  Soak up some entertainment during a Reader’s Theatre comprised of a dramatic reading written by Paul Little and performed by church members. A fish dinner “cooked up” by our own fishermen will follow.

November 12:  Our traditional chili cook-off at the annual meeting will be replaced with an Historical Meal consisting of foods traditionally served during the early days of our church.

December 24:  Our Final Celebration of the church’s anniversary will take place at our Christmas Eve worship service.  You will leave that evening with a keepsake to commemorate our church’s 170th year!
